Jarvis Documentation Tool

Jarvis is Oracle’s internal Document Engineering tool used by writers to test, approve, and publish all of Oracle’s documentation. Every product Oracle creates has its own documentation, and each document passes through Jarvis.

Prior to this tool, writers had to complete each step of the process across multiple platforms—each with a different look and feel, and a completely different user experience. It’s easy to see how inefficient and time-consuming this made the entire process.

Success Criteria

To provide writers with an efficient, centralized solution for publishing documents and books.

Challenges

• While the need was clear, no one had formally requested a solution.
• We had no resources to work with.

Solution

We centralized the entire document creation and publishing workflow into a single tool, with a simple, intuitive dashboard.

The first step was to learn the process thoroughly to identify the true needs and pain points of the users.

Results

• Time Savings: The time to publish a document, from start to finish, was reduced from 4 hours to just 30 minutes.
• User Growth: Jarvis’s user base grew from 10 users to 300 users in 2019.
• Simplified Process: The streamlined workflow allowed anyone to easily publish a document, significantly improving the onboarding process for new team members.
